Statistical Analysis by Means of Deviation Probability Measure for Degree of Abnormality on Long Bone Growth in the Chick Embrio

Abstract
The dynamics of normal and abnorm~~l growth was the subject of numerous studies in the past three decades, but relatively few pul¢¥~lications since have appeared in this field.
A simple mathematical description of growth was proposed by Gompertz and Wright almost 40 years ago, and we have found a, similar formulation to be of use in the analysi:~ of the abnormal growth.
The use of these methods has made possible the identification of certain growth regulating factor in the living organism theoretically. Three equations with suitable mathematical properties have been used more or less widely. to measure the growth of organisms.
The present paper is a renewed effort: to use those mathematical and statistical mod<;Is as a different approach to the standarizat:ion for degree of abnormality by using deviation probability measure.
The results observed are summarized as follows:
1) In the group of 3mg cortisone treated on both 6th and 8th day incubation: prominent growth inhibition was recognized on length of tibiotarsal and tarsometatarsal bone.
2) In the group of 5mg cortisone treated on both experimental days: humerus and tibiotarsal bone showed serious growth retardation.
3) The tibiotarsal bone in all experimental groups, it was found striking growth inhibition by cortisone acetate, respectively.
4) According to the theoretically estimated volume, it was found that growth inhibition effect was much stronger on the femur than. tibiotarsal bone.
It can be, therefore, concluded that deviation: probability measure is a useful method for statistical growth analysis.
